After using Huawei's distributed solution:
- Output power has been decreased by 20W to reach 40W.
- Power consumption has been decreased from 925 W to 480 W.
- Power saving: 3900 KWH/year/ site

Huawei's intelligent shutdown technology is an effective way to save energy. The high frequency site is powered off in low-traffic periods and powered on when the traffic levels pick up based on a predetermined demand threshold. Turning off of the base station in periods of low or zero demand results in significant power consumption savings (approximately 320 KWH power per carrier per year)

To effectively meet communications demand for the torch relay of Olympic Games in Mount Everest, China Mobile selected Huawei to build the world's highest GSM network (5200m above sea level).

Huawei's green base station has the following characteristics:
- using energy-efficient equipment powered by green energy
- using solar energy as the power supply
- using energy saving and environmentally friendly materials
- removing equipment in its entirety after the mission was accomplished without causing any pollution

- Huawei's NE5000E cluster routers are back-to-back multi-frame clusters in cascade but appear to be one machine. Their power consumption is the lowest (of its kind) in the industry.
- Saving 2.50 million KWH power (or an energy bill of RMB 1.5 million) for the operator in three years, which is equivalent to reducing 1630 tons of CO2 emissions and saving 833 tons of coal.

Russia-based TransteleCom selected Huawei's 40G transmission solution. This solution has the following energy efficiency features:
- Huawei's patented SuperWDM technology can meet ultra-long-haul (ULH) transmission by reducing 20 per cent of relay nodes compared with the traditional solution.
- The large-capacity optical-layer scheduling and protection for equipment integration can significantly boost equipment integration and reduce the number of ports and the footprint of main equipment.
- The ASIC high-integration chip independently developed by Huawei can reduce the overall energy consumption by 25 per cent.
- The solution saves electricity by 30 per cent.

Pakistan-based Warid has taken the lead in using solar energy equipment to supply power to communications base stations. By leveraging Pakistan's abundant solar energy resources, Warid has alleviated energy-related operation and maintenance cost pressure and improved the environmentally friendly performance of mobile networks.

- Field data collected in cooperation with China Mobile (Qinghai) Branch show that compared with the traditional equipment, Huawei's wireless network products can reduce power consumption by about 30 per cent and save TCO by over 14 per cent, while improving network performance.
- The use of renewable energy has not only expanded network coverage but also enabled small base stations in remote areas to reduce about 23.2 tons of CO2 emissions a year.
